In 1934, the Kazanjian family established the Riverside Golf Range, eventually taking the name Whirlaway after the 1941 Triple Crown winning race horse. In 1983, a few years removed from a stellar high school running career, Dave Kazanjian began selling shoes in a small corner of the Whirlaway Pro Shop. The store quickly became known as the place to be fitted for a great pair of shoes throughout the New England running community. As the business expanded to serve athletes in many other sports, a larger facility was built in 1989.

The Whirlaway Sports Center now sits above the pro shop and is one of New England’s premier dealers of athletic shoes and sporting goods. The family tradition of going the distance for every customer continues and is evident in the pride each and every staff member takes in working here. Whirlaway offers gait and biomechanical analysis for all its customers and carries a selection of footwear and apparel that is unmatched in the Merrimack Valley. Whirlaway is a nationally recognized specialty store and is grateful to receive referrals from many area coaches, doctors, physical therapists and health care professionals.
